Among the most highly respected figures in the world of Welsh Ponies and Cobs are undoubtedly Ann Bigley and her daughter Catryn Bigley of the renowned Llanarth Stud. The Bigley family has been involved in breeding for more than fifty years, and the name Llanarth has become synonymous with quality, type and outstanding presentation of Welsh breeds. The stud has bred a number of exceptionally successful ponies that have achieved the highest accolades at British and international shows. Ponies carrying the Llanarth prefix regularly win not only in show classes, but also under saddle and in breeding, where they have a significant influence on future generations.
Ann Bigley is one of the most respected judges in the United Kingdom. She is a panel judge for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society for all sections of the Welsh breeds as well as riding ponies, and for many years has been invited to judge the most important British shows.
Catryn Bigley continues the family tradition as a successful breeder, exhibitor and international judge. She is also a panel judge for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society for all sections of Welsh Ponies and Cobs and regularly judges major national and international shows in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Both judges are particularly valued for their eye for type, correct conformation, quality of movement and the preservation of the traditional characteristics of the Welsh breeds. Thanks to their many years of breeding experience, they are able to combine a high level of expertise with the practical perspective of experienced breeders.
Llanarth Stud is associated with numerous victories at prestigious shows, including the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), Royal Welsh Show, Royal Welsh Winter Fair, Olympia London International Horse Show and major shows organised by the Welsh Pony and Cob Society. Ponies bred at the stud have repeatedly won titles such as Supreme Champion, Breed Champion and other top accolades.
